WHAT FACIAL IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Everyone’s skin and concerns are different therefore we recommend coming in to see us or booking an online consultation prior to your first session so we can discuss your concerns in more detail and devise a bespoke treatment plan for you.
However, all Dermalogica skin solutions are tailored to the individuals skin concerns and goals, therefore on the day of your appointment, your therapist will plan your treatment to target your main skin concerns.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
A course of treatments is recommend for optimum results, however, the number of sessions required will depend on a number of factors such as your skin concerns and targets. Therefore, we recommend coming in to see us for a consultation so we can discuss your concerns in more detail, perform a skin analysis and devise a bespoke treatment plan for you.
PRO POWER PEEL
I’m new to peels, can I have the Pro Power Peel?
If you have never received a skin treatment and don’t exfoliate at home, we will recommend a consultation prior to your appointment and begin with a single layer of UltraBright Peel and then build up gradually. Please note, a patch test is required prior to your appointment.
When is Pro Power Peel not advised?
We will not be able to perform a Pro-Power Peel if any of the following apply to you:
- You’ve had a reaction to the patch test
- Received a resurfacing skin procedure such as laser, light therapy, microdermabrasion or chemical peel within the past two weeks
- Received Botox or other injectables within the past week
- Used Retin-A within the past 48 hours
- Used Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months
- Waxed (on the area being treated) within the past 72 hours
- Has a contagious skin disease or infection such as an active cold sore
- Is pregnant or lactating
Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure you notify us at the time of booking or at-least 48-hours prior to your appointment if any of the above apply to you. If you arrive for your appointment and have not notified us we may need to cancel your appointment for your health and safety but the original booking will still be charged.
My skin is not peeling. Does this mean the treatment didn’t work?
No it doesn’t mean it didn’t work. Depending on the skin’s resistance and treatment frequency, you may experience a delay in peeling – or experience no peeling or flaking. The absence of peeling could also indicate that your skin may be able to tolerate additional peel layers during the treatment. For a more accurate assessment of the treatment’s success, please contact us so we can discuss your concerns inn more detail.
My hyperpigmentation appears darker. Did the treatment make my pigmentation worse?
No. It can take a week or longer to see changes in your skin! There may be more color on hyperpigmented areas for the first few days after treatment, as pigmented cells rise to the surface and slough off while new skin cells emerge at the basal cell layer. If you are experience extreme darkening or lightening please contact us.
Areas of my face are white. What happened?
Whitening of skin (“frosting”) can occur with the Pro Power Peel. In areas of frosting, clients should expect peeling. We recommend keeping frosted areas moisturised with a prescribed Dermalogica Moisturiser for 3-4 days post-peel.
What is the difference between peeling from a chemical peel and peeling from a sunburn?
Sunburns and chemical peels may produce similar reactions, but they have very different effects on the skin. A chemical peel uses a variety of caustic chemicals to selectively disrupt layers of skin and encourage the regeneration of healthy new skin. A sunburn is an uncontrolled wound caused by Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR).
PRO POWER PEEL AFTERCARE
Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, it is normal to experience a variety of side effects as your skin goes through the post-peel renewal process. Professional peel side effects can include redness, dryness, itching or irritation as well as swelling, tightness, peeling or scabbing. With 2-3 days, skin may look flaky or tan as the outermost surface peels off to make room for more radiant, new skin. You may also notice temporarily more pronounced discoloration or age spots as they rise to the skin’s surface before getting sloughed away.
Whether you’re using an at-home peel or getting a professional peel, you can minimise your skin’s downtime afterward by following these expert tips:
- Apply a minimum SPF30 immediately after your treatment
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 2-3 weeks to prevent hyperpigmentation
- Wash your face with cool water to help soothe post-peel sensations.
- Moisturise throughout the day to maintain hydration and decrease the appearance of flaking.
- Drink plenty of water over the next 2-3 days post peel.
- Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
- Do not exfoliate for at least 3-4 days post peel. Over-exfoliating can lead to more redness or sensitivity, so wait until your skin feels up to it.
After your treatment we will talk you through these aftercare tips and prescribe the Pro Power Peel Post-Procedure Kit to use for 2-3 days following your treatment.
How can I maintain my results between treatments?
We recommend using at-home peels, like Dermalogica’s Rapid Reveal Peel, in between professional resurfacing treatments to help maintain your results. Please note, you should wait at least two weeks after your Pro Power Peel before beginning treatment with Rapid Reveal Peel.
When can I apply make-up?
It’s best to wait as long as possible on the day of treatment to apply make-up. We recommend waiting a minimum of 24 hours after treatment to give the skin a chance to calm down and reduce the possibility of irritation. However, if you need to apply make-up sooner wait a minimum of 30 minutes post-treatment before applying anything on your face.
